From Pattaya to Bankok: The Royal Adventure

Friday was just a lazy for us after the epic Songkran Day. We went to this Mexican restaurant, Sun Rise Tacos, where they have yard long margaritas. I was sadly disappointed when they didn’t have any of the cups left after the previous day’s celebrations. What a letdown. We did however have some really good Mexican food, so all was well. I also had a delicious blue margarita too. So, all in all, it was a good trip.
We kept it low key that night and prepared our things for the journey to Bangkok the next day.

Saturday the 21st, Thelma’s birthday, we left Pattaya for Bangkok. This time we took the bus. It was quite a pleasant trip. They picked us up at the hotel with a taxi and took us to the bus station and then we boarded the bus for Bangkok. We arrived and another taxi took us straight to the hotel.

For Thelma’s 26th birthday, she had us stay in the Renaissance Hotel. It was gorgeous. We were greeted with smiling faces and gracious words. It was like we were royalty except we were dressed like traveling bums and were escorted out of a Toyota van. They obviously don’t discriminate. We went to check-in at the desk in the glorious lobby and we were told that we needed to check-in at the member’s “VIP” lounge because Thelma’s dad is a Platinum Member with Marriott (he travels a lot with his work). Anyhow, we were led to the lounge in our most appropriate attire. They checked us in and we went to our room. It was immaculate. Then the complimentary wine and shrimp rolls were delivered. We had seriously upgraded from our living quarters in Tanzania. We relaxed and bit and then took a tour of the hotel.

That night, we decided to attend the Italian restaurant in the hotel, La Tivola, which is one of 5 restaurants in the hotel. While we were showering and getting ready, I made a few trips to the Member’s lounge because there was an open bar and a whole buffet of free food. It was amazing. Then we went to dinner in our best clothes…wrinkled khakis, polos, and button-up shirts. We were the classiest couple in the place. Side note, we were thought to be a newlywed couple on our honey moon by the bell staff. Awesome. Anyways, to our surprise, La Tivola had some of the most amazing Italian food we had ever eaten and in Thailand of all places. It was Amazing.

Sunday was the day that we were to check-in at the Marriott Vacation Club for the next week. We lazed around the Renaissance all morning and headed to the Vacation Club that afternoon. We arrived a little early, so we left our bags with the bell staff and went for a little look see at our surroundings. We found the conveniently located skytrain station, a 7 Eleven, McDonalds, and Au Ban Pain. After our jaunt, we went back to find our condo and spent evening unwinding and planning the week.

Me with my blue margarita...not a yard long one. :-)
