Friday the 16th had its ups and downs. In the morning we went to our
typical meeting. Then, we decided that we wanted to see some of the cases in
the wards. Boy, oh boy!! First, we went to see a newborn that was born with
gastroschiasis – the bowel failed to be enclosed in the abdomen. Sad yes, but interesting to see. Then, we
went to the surgery ward and saw two burned children. One was significantly
damaged with his chin basically melted into his chest. He was screaming as they
changed his bandages. Terrifying. After the drama of the morning, we headed
home because we didn’t think that we could take much more.
That afternoon was nice. I was in charge of distracting
Sunniva a couple times as the other girls prepared for her surprise birthday
party. Siri made burning love for dinner.
It has mashed potatoes, minced meat with tomato sauce, ketchup,
vegetables and cheese on top! Yum! Then we had tons of fun with cake, balloons,
and about 15-20 people. She was completely surprised. That night after the
party we went to Glaciers. Nothing new there. J
Saturday was a new day. For St. Patrick’s day had matching
outfits made in town. They were amazing. We had a little party and went to
Glaciers in our outfits. Tons of fun!!! J
Sunday was a day of rest and preparation. We went to get our
bus tickets to Tanga and spent most of the day packing and lounging. That night
we went to Salzberg Steakhouse. It was a delicious taste of the Sound of Music.
